| Saying Good-bye, Again
When the sun rose, a certain sadness rose with it, spreading wakefulness with the sounds of the birds as they sang their songs of loss and departure. And like some cosmic orchestra tuning up - first a sole lonely instrument, then another plaintive voice, and another, together rising into a somber dissonance- so too did the various players among the world of objects strike their notes (a car starting, a door slammed, a radio suddenly turned on and tuned, some footsteps slowly drawing near... and then receding). Always the same, always in stark contrast to the symphony, which, though anticipated, would never play... whose joyous themes and subtle harmonies would never be heard. As awake as anything is in itself, the bright morning sun streamed past the thin blinds and through the aimlessly floating dust within the hollow chamber, temporarily making things seem like one really wanted them to be, not what we actually know them to be. It made things seem beautiful. It reminded me that you were leaving and that I would be saying good-bye, again. |
